The last place I want to be when I’m sick is at the doctor’s office. When I don’t feel well, I don’t want to drive. I don’t want to sit in a waiting room and I definitely don’t want to run to the pharmacy to fill out a prescription afterwards. The idea of a mail order pharmacy is a dream to someone like me. If I am sick enough to require medication, I want to stay in bed.

Okay, I still have to go to the doctor. If you are sick, you need medical attention but there are times that I just want to tell
my doctor that I need an antibiotic over the phone. He could make a call and the mail order pharmacy can send what I need on its way. We would all be happy.

Of course, it doesn’t work this way for illnesses like strep throat. We have to go through the motions even though we know the symptoms and we see the little white spots on the back of our feverish throats. It is necessary to see the doctor to make sure that what we know is what we really know.

However, not everyone who takes medication takes it for conditions like strep throat. Some people have ongoing medications that they take all the time. These individuals would benefit greatly form a mail order pharmacy. Their monthly medications can be renewed each cycle with a simple phone call and fax from the doctor. The medication can be sent directly to the person’s home.

The mail order pharmacy is a wonderful idea for the elderly. Many elderly people have difficulty getting around. Some rely on friends and relatives to run errands for them. Others have no one. A caseworker can help the individual with his everyday needs.

However, while making sure that the person has his medication is crucial to the person’s health and well-being, there are other needs the individual has as well that desperately need attention. Using a mail order pharmacy to address the needs of the elderly will provide his caretakers more time to devote to his various needs.

With the current condition of social services in regards to the elderly population, caseworkers need all of the time and energy they have to devote to their clients. Making trips to the pharmacy, though helpful, shouldn’t be one of them. A mail order pharmacy would do wonders for the social service industry.
