Relax and Unwind with Aromatherapy Essential Oils

There are many forms of therapy floating around today. Among my personal favorites is aromatherapy. This is not considered a cure for any serious health or emotional problems but it does serve as a great way to unwind after a long day. Aromatherapy essential oil is the foundation for the therapeutic scents that can be administered in a spa or at home. These oils are typically made from herbs or flowers and can have a very powerful effect.

I prefer to simply relax at home. I have my favorite aromatherapy essential oil right next to the towels in my bathroom. The attractive bottle serves as a lovely piece of decoration that is as appealing to the eye as it is to the nose. This added feature makes the entire experience more pleasurable.

Creating an in-home spa is an inexpensive alternative to visiting a pricy spa. I find it hard to relax when I know that I am spending a chunk of money that could be used for more practical things. No aromatherapy essential oil on earth can cure a severe case of guilt. I know. I’ve tried.

The spa visit is ideal for some people who are comfortable in such settings. I am a little independent. I really don’t need someone slathering me with aromatherapy essential oil to feel relaxed. In fact, this may make me a little tense. My idea of relaxing does not involve people I barely know. This is too social for real relaxation.

I also don’t want to drive home after an hour of deep relaxation. A really good aromatherapy essential oil will put you in a very heavy state of calm that does not have any business behind the wheel of a car. I would have to undo some of the effects of the aromatherapy essential oil in order to operate my vehicle.

This is not to suggest that the oil is intoxicating but certain ones can really have a profound effect on your system. This is especially true if you make certain associations with the scents. The sense of smell is strongly tied to memory. It is important that your aromatherapy essential oil is linked to calm, happy memories.

For example, many people love the smell of lavender. Lavender has a calming or relaxing effect on the mind. It is one of my favorite essential oils. To me, there is nothing more relaxing than soaking in a hot tub with a few capfuls of lavender oil added to the water. Add some lit candles and I am in heaven! Many times I will fall to sleep soaking in the tub.

Keep in mind when shopping for your perfect aromatherapy essential oil. Go with what you like instead of what is recommended. You may have some memories of your own that you would like to rekindle.

Relax at Home

Creating a home spa atmosphere can be as simple as closing the door and turning on some relaxing music! If you live with a family, schedule some spa time at home to relax and unwind. Maybe you have a day of the week that is your spa day. Make sure everyone knows about this time and that you must not be disturbed during this personal time. Even an hour or two a week will help!
